CAPSULES ARTIST RESOURCES

In Toronto, the challenge of securing accessible artist workspaces and community spaces has become increasingly difficult and urgent. As arts funding becomes reprioritized and unsustainable for-profit models shut their doors, it is essential to ensure safe and dignified environments where artists can thrive. Capsules addresses this need head-on by prioritizing the health, well-being, and financial stability of artists through a thoughtfully designed artist-run, non-profit, small-scale studio model.

At the core of Capsules is an innovative co-op model that promotes collective care and fosters community building. By encouraging mentorship and skill-sharing, we aim to cultivate an inclusive network where artists can support one another and grow both personally and professionally. Our vision extends beyond individual studios; we aspire to develop a self-sustaining, decentralized ecosystem of artist-led initiatives. This approach enhances the resilience and sustainability of the arts sector, reducing dependency on external granting bodies while providing new business models for financially independent collectives, artists and makers.

Led by artists, Capsules is committed to decolonial principles, emphasizing equitable relationships and sustainability. Our governance model focuses on lateral collaboration, setting a new standard within the arts community. By creating spaces that reflect the diverse fabric of Toronto's artistic landscape, we not only nurture creative expression but also strengthen community ties.

Join us in our mission to revolutionise artist workspaces in Toronto. Together, we can build a thriving, equitable environment where creativity flourishes and artists are empowered to achieve their full potential.
